It\u2019s logical to thin these kinds of success will be copied in other Provinces in Canada, and it\u2019s fair to say that if Ontario can get it right with their population densities then any other place in Canada can figure it our right for themselves too.<\/p>\n

Share, Reuse, Repair<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The recognition for the success with is needs to go to the Circular Innovation Council\u2019s Share, Reuse, Repair Hub. Its expansion into Ontario\u2019s Peel Region didn\u2019t get much fanfare at all but in more recent years it has attracted more attention than a floozy in a bar at 1am. Initially launched in 2022 with support from The Regional Municipality of York\u2019s Circular Economy Initiatives Fund, the Share, Reuse, Repair Hub is a community-based virtual resource offers easy access for residents to find local information that enables share, reuse, repair.<\/p>\n

Offering a platform for local businesses to promote their contribution to the circular economy is also what they do, and this focus on sharing, reusing, and repairing really does keep items out of landfills, reduces carbon emissions and supports local businesses. The program has expanded too, going from the York Region and expanding into Peel along with new businesses, educational links, and events to the existing York Region directory. Directories like this are where you may find redirects to disposal bin rental services for Belleville or Camborne too.<\/p>\n

Take your own look at this share, reuse and repair hub and you\u2019ll also see a directory of 85+ businesses, resources, and events specific to Peel Region and the municipalities of Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon. Making information related to businesses, educational links, and events specific to York Region and its municipalities of Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, and Whitchurch-Stouffville is a big part of why the needed numbers of area residents are participating in the program.<\/p>\n

Extending Lifecycles<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A contributor to the buy-in and success with this had been an online map that allows users to find businesses based on location and categories. There are listing of local events like repair caf\u00e9s, swaps, curb side giveaways, and collection drives and the hub is recognized as a contributor to value retention processes, or VRP as it is now abbreviated. This equates to us doing what we can to extend the lifecycle of our consumer goods.<\/p>\n

VRPs are activities that extend the lifecycle of our items, retaining their value and keeping them in the economy. These processes include repair, refurbishment, sharing platforms, reuse models, and remanufacturing. A 2019 study conducted by the Canada Environment and Climate Change panel indicated that VRPs are are now worth an approximate CAD$56 billion annually, and support more than 371,000 direct jobs in Canada.<\/p>\n

Each year, VRPs prevent approximately 1.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) from entering the atmosphere, and avoid the use of 470 kilotonnes (kt) of virgin materials.<\/p>\n

An estimated 74 kilotons of plastics are among these hauls, and as we know it is very imprint that as much plastic as possible is directed into the right recycling and repurposing channels.<\/p>\n
