Urban Area residents get weekly curbside garbage, organics and recycling, but Rural Ward residents get no curbside pickup and must self-haul to the Hope Transfer Station at 4775 5th Line — and that site is restricted to Port Hope Rural Ward residents only, with proof of residency, for their own household waste. The County’s landfill is over 40 minutes east at the Brighton CRC, and bulky items, hazardous waste and e-waste are never curbside and have to go to a County depot. Do I need a permit to put a bin in Port Hope?
If the bin sits entirely on your own driveway or private property, no permit is needed. If it has to sit on a municipal road, lane or sidewalk, the Municipality of Port Hope requires a Road Occupancy Permit (apply online or at 5 Mill Street South) — wherever possible we’ll place the bin on your property so you don’t need one.

What size bin do I need?

What can’t go in the bin?
