Everything that’s going to go into a homeowner’s recycling bins is going to be commonplace stuff, and if their home is like most others it will be a lot of recyclable plastic packaging. No matter what it is it won’t be the kind of stuff we see in the dumpsters we collect here at Load & Lift. It’s a different type of waste, and while some it may be recycled most of it needs to be channeled the right way so it can be handled and disposed properly. Seeing to it that waste is managed this way and ends up in the right place is the overarching reason why our Trenton and Colborne dumpster rental business got its start all those years ago.

It’s a rubbish removal service for homeowners in this area of Ontario, and the fact that so many property owners are undertaking renovation projects, demolitions, and anything else where voluminous waste production occurs is something that we need to be thankful for. It’s allowed us to create this business, and we are definitely meeting a need for anyone who needs to rent a dumpster in Campbellford or anywhere else nearby. Owners would be struggling to find options to get rid of their waste if services like this were’t available to them.

And so it is that we’ve had a steady stream of business over the last two decades. Load n’ Lift has been in operation since 2007, and part of what we offer for customers is the ability to remove pretty much anything and everything and have it taken to the proper disposal facilities as per Provincial regulations. Pretty much anything can go into our rental disposal bins, but that’s not going to be the case for household recycling bins. You may not need a truck to move them, but you do need to be more mindful about what goes in them.

It seems that other forces are now dictating that much of what goes into them is different from what used to make up the bulk of recyclable materials just a few short years. There has been a large shift in the mixes of household recycling seen in bins across North America since the start of the 20s, and there are people who actually track this sort of stuff. They probably have the same interest in waste collection and recycling that we do, and so we’ll make this the topic for our blog entry here this month.

Lighter / More Varied

So you don’t likely need to give much thought to what goes into a Port Hope dumpster rental, but what you read here may make you at least think about what sort of stuff you’re tossing into your household recycling bins at home. And if that’s different than most of what went into it previously. The residential recycling stream for households in both countries is shifting dramatically. It’s becoming lighter and more varied. The only negative aspect, though, is it is become increasingly complex to handle.

A recent report from the The Recycling Partnership in the USA is suggesting that traditional residential material generation in the U.S. dropped by 3.7 million tonnes (8%) since 2020. And this despite the total number of households in the country growing by 8.5 million. As is nearly always the case these same number frameworks are probably accurate for Canada too, just at 1/10 of the amount for Canada based on the average population-size variance.

These findings do offer Canadian waste management professionals a clear preview of shifting feedstock dynamics across North America. The huge jump in corrugated cardboard is attributable to E-commerce. For the US growth in it drove a 32% per-household increase in corrugated cardboard. Non-bottle PET grew by 48%, polypropylene up by 47%, and cartons went up a lot over this time – 61%. Major decreases were seen with mixed paper (34%) and glass ( down 28%).

Plastics and film combined now make up 31% of overall household generation. Materials recovery facilities (MRFs) and processors now have a pressing need to adjust processing infrastructure to better capture these evolving plastics and lighter packaging and process them more efficiently in recycling. What will be most key to handling the greater complexity with handling is to have strong end markets, processing innovation, and sustained investment in wast recycling facilities and technologies.

The expectation is that Canadian operators working with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations can leverage these generation trends to guide future fleet investments, MRF optical sorting upgrades, and be better contributing to downstream market development.

Need to rent a dumpster in Colborne or Trenton? We also do dumpster rentals for Belleville and Camborne and for any other small town in this part of Ontario. Our bins feature ground level entry, making loading easy and convenient. You’re able to walk into the bin if that makes transferring the waste easier, and it usually means you can maximize loading capacity too.

We can usually do a dumpster rental and delivery to anywhere in Prince Edward County the same day a customer calls for one, and once the bin is full we pick it up and take it away with equal speediness. And remember that we have a 5% discount for seniors and CFB Trenton members as offers that are available all-year round.
