A moving checklist you will actually use

Here at Dumpster Rentals by Load-N-Lift Disposal, we have seen our fair share of residential moves, and every time we say it would help if you had a handy checklist. Well, it took us a few years, but we have finally got ourselves a list that is worth sharing with our great customers.

Start Packing Early

Look, it seems like a no-brainer, and if you are a veteran of moves, you know that you have said this to yourself a few times. We are not talking a few days either, start packing at a minimum a few months out of your moving day, especially if it is a full home move. It will allow you to keep the stress levels low, and your organisation skills a little sharper. Nothing is worse than dealing with an unmarked box with a collection of things from every room of the house, and only because you packed last minute and literally threw it together.

Pack Items which are least used

During your aforementioned early packing, you should focus on items that you are not going to be using on a daily basis. Some perfect examples are gardening and summer clothes if you are moving in the winter, or your winter jackets if you are moving in the summer. This will allow you to get things packed all without the disruptions to everyday life which make packing stressful.

Essentials

An essentials box is always important, and you would be surprised how much of a lifesaver this will be. You can add things like canned food, utensils, toiletries and of course a corkscrew. Make sure to clearly label this box, and make it simple for you to put it on the kitchen counter as soon as you move in.

Watch the weight

If you have a bookworm in your family, this is especially important. Make sure to keep boxes to a reasonable weight, around 30 pounds or 15 kilograms. This will prevent any nasty back injuries and will allow you to move a lot more on your first day then you will expect to be able to.

Label all boxes

This seems to be a bit of a no-brainer, but you would be surprised. Make sure to label everything with a bold marker, and make it big. You will be unpacking when you are tired, and probably in the dark, so a big clear label will make life a little easier for future you!

Declutter

When it comes to the key to moving, it really is to declutter. That is where Dumpster Rentals by Load-N-Lift Disposal can assist, we have been helping our residential clients with decluttering and junk removal services for years, and will be able to make sure the experience is amazing. Our trucks will be able to be on site on the day of, and our handy workers will assist if there is anything big that needs to go. Plus, you will get to move less, and that means that you get to the after moving pizza even faster!
